The camp is open to boys ages 8-17 and campers will be divided by age and ability. We have enjoyed worked with Washington players over the past 11 summers and would look forward to the opportunity to work with any of the players in your program. GameBreaker Lacrosse operates summer camps at over 100 locations nationwide with more than 60,000 players attending these camps to improve and have fun.

Our staff will include college coaches, NCAA players, and top high school coaches who are dedicated to the individual development of each camper and serve as great role models to the campers. We are a teaching camp that also provides competitive scrimmaging opportunities – all in a fun and positive atmosphere. Our entire staff takes pride in the improvement of each camper that we work with during the camp.
There is a camp brochure that can be downloaded here. Would it be possible to forward this to the players in your program?

Lakeside Summer Camp
posted 4/29/2013 by S. Bisett
Coaches,
I have had a few parents ask me lately about summer lacrosse camps in our area. I want to remind you all about the Lakeside camp. The camp is from July 15-19 from 9 am to 3 pm.
It will be run by Lakeside varsity assistant coaches Ian Redman and Nick Petersdorf. It is geared towards beginning and intermediate players. There will be several Lakeside varsity players serving as assistant coaches, so campers will have plenty of individualized attention throughout the camp.
The mornings will focus on skills and drills. In the afternoons there will be competitions and games.
The cost for the camp is $350 which includes a reversible jersey and lunch. Financial aid is available.
I have handed out some informational sheets to some of you and some of your players might have picked them up during the clinics that we ran last winter. There is more information on the Lakeside website, WWW.lakesideschool.org.
Don't hesitate contact me with questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Peter Blue
Interested in Summer and Fall Lacrosse?
posted 4/25/2013 by Steve Bisett
Coaches and Program Directors,
I wanted to touch base regarding formulating a Puget Sound Youth League (PSYL) for grades 6-8 (fall of 2013) for the summer months of July through August 2013, and fall months of September through December 2013. With the current number and quality of players in the middle school grades who wish to play lacrosse without the extreme expense and travel associated with a “select” team at an all time high, it make sense to formulate a middle school Youth League of some type to provide players with an opportunity to play over the summer and again through the fall. As we are all aware, keeping our youth programs strong throughout the year allows us to ensure the future and viability of the sport at all levels.
I am aware some teams and programs may not have enough players to field individual teams. It is beneficial for everyone to approach developing the Select League by combining players from different clubs to formulate teams that are adequate in both number and skill set, i.e.; Queen Anne and Magnolia could easily combine and produce an excellent team. I will be drawing some players in from Sequim and Poulsbo to round out the players we have on Bainbridge.
Ideally we would garner enough interest to formulate 5 to 10 teams and put together a jamboree or game schedule where we can rotate hosting in all 4 regions. Games/Jamborees would occur once a week or every other week for 5 to 8 contests over the summer and then again in the fall.
As far as fees, each individual team would be responsible for setting and collecting their own fees as well as booking practice fields and field time for hosting games/jamborees. Practice schedules would also be determined individually by each team based on the previous criteria as well as consideration for how serious or not each team wants to be. In addition to field time, refs are the most significant expense. Each team would be responsible for providing refs for the games they host or "self-referee" the games with qualified high school players or coaches. If an inequity in hosting occurs, and consequently incuring more ref fees, based on the final schedule adjustments could be made for teams to split those costs in a "pool".
Creating the master schedule of games is the most significant hurdle to overcome from an administrative standpoint, but can be addressed as soon as we have a clear sense of the number of teams that are participating.
Please respond with any suggestions or items you would like to bring to the discussion as well as indicate your level of interest in participating. Ideally we would have a rough program in place within a week so we can share it with our membership and network to formulate the best program for the players.
Thanks,
Jack Visco

Hello coaches,
I hope your season is going well. I wanted to check in as we are at about the halfway point in the season.
First I want to mention that there have been a few incidents that have been brought to my attention concerning the conduct of both players and coaches. In one instance, there was a fight and a player from each team was ejected.
Please be aware that if that happens, our bylaws state that "Ejection of players, coaches, or spectators by officials will result in the automatic suspension from participating in all SMYLA functions, including all practices, for a period to include the next scheduled game." If the individual is ejected again, "it will result in the automatic suspension from league play for the remainder of the current year."
Should a player or coach be ejected, the coach or a representative from the team must inform the SMYLA board so that we can be sure the ejected player coach does not participate in the practices or following game. We cannot rely on our young referees to monitor ineligible players. It will also require coaches to use the honor system in enforcing the suspensions.
Hopefully we will not see any more fights or ejections this season. As coaches our primary jobs are to ensure the safety of all players and to honor the game. In the heat of a game it is easy to forget these things, but please try to keep the big picture in mind - we are coaching at the youth level, trying to get kids to enjoy playing lacrosse. There are no playoffs. Though winning is great, you probably won't lose your job if you don't have a winning season.
If we do our jobs well, these kids will enjoy playing lacrosse and will continue to play for many years. The more we can promote respect and camaraderie between players and coaches from different teams, the better we can do in promoting the sport and building the lacrosse community in our region.
Please let me know if you ever have any concerns or see ways we can improve our league. We really appreciate all that you coaches do. You are the ones bringing lacrosse to these kids.
Thank you,
Peter Blue

SCHEDULE UPDATE
At this point, we have (3) weeks of schedules into the system. The full schedule is complete, except for the coordination to respond to resent changes. There is now a problem with byes (due to teams dropping) at all levels. I am working with the other leagues to add games into the holes, and to keep all teams with a reasonably balanced home-away schedule.
The goal is for the complete schedule to be posted before the end of this weekend. The schedules are posted on our seattlelacrosse.org website. You can drill down for each team, or review the entire schedule. I can also send an Excel version (downloaded from the system) if anyone wants to sort the data to show the games for their program in a separate format.
Overall, it’s been difficult this year due to the new software, changes in the number of teams, and other cross-league issues.
RULES
We are following the USL Youth Rule amendments to the NFHS High School Rules. Attached is sheet showing the differences for each level. (U11 = 3-4, U13 = 5-6, and U15 = 7-8) Key rule issues this year:
The 5 yard requirement for when a player can be checked is 3 yards for youth. All legal checks, legal holds, and legal pushes (man ball) must be on a player in possession of the ball or within 3 yards of a loose ball.
NO TAKE OUT CHECKS ALLOWED AT ANY LEVEL.
Advancing the Ball: The timer will be used at both 7-8 and 5-6 this year. The ball must cross the midfield line within 20 seconds of gaining possession, and must be advanced to the box within 10 seconds after crossing the midfield line. This is the same as high school. Referees have been trained on this, but it’s going to a hard task for the new referees.
Faceoff Mercy Rule: If a team has a 4 goal lead, the team behind may request to be given the ball at midfield (in lieu of a faceoff). This can be waived by the losing coach. This rule applies at all three levels.
GAME TIME
5-6 and 7-8 games are (4) 10-minute stop-time quarters.
3-4 games are (4) 10 minute running time quarters.
Quarter breaks are 2 minutes (or less). Half-time should be no more than 10 minutes maximum.
Our schedule is based upon 1-1/2 hours per 5-6 and 7-8 game. We absolutely need to follow these time regulations listed above. (3-4 games are allotted one hour of time.)
TEAM ROSTERS
Team rosters for all teams are due by March 15. We will send a template, similar to last year.
GAMES TOMORROW
Tomorrow is the busiest day of the season. We have youth games, high school games, and college games. The youth games are primarily officiated by high school players, many of whom have high school games, so there will be many games that are not covered by referees.
Also, this will be the first game for many of the youth officials. Please be considerate of this when interacting with the officials. If there is a particular problem or issue, don’t address it with the official. Send a note to me at seattlelacrosse@gmail.com. I forward the issue to WALOA.
